Teeth Whitening Q & A

What causes tooth discoloration?

Many factors can affect the color of your teeth. Causes of tooth discoloration can include:

  • Prescription medications
  • Certain foods/beverages
  • Tobacco use
  • Aging

Surface stains on the enamel of your teeth often result from drinking coffee, tea, red wine, soda, and other beverages. Smoking is another common culprit. However, some patients experience tooth discoloration even if they take excellent care of their teeth.

Unfortunately, surface stains can be difficult to remove. Many stains spread beneath the enamel to the dentin of your tooth. When this happens, regular brushing and flossing aren't enough to remove the stains. Professional whitening treatments are needed.

What makes KöR tooth whitening special?

When tooth whitening gel is exposed to heat, the gel may become effective. KöR whitening gel is shipped to Dr. Galbreath in cold packs and then refrigerated until you're ready to take it home. This helps preserve the gel's potency.

KöR-Seal Trays™ are also designed to keep out saliva. With other whitening trays, your saliva can break down the compounds in the whitening gel and keep the gel from working correctly. KöR-Seal Trays prevent this problem to ensure exceptional results.

Unlike many whitening products, KöR whitening solution whitens your teeth without causing damage to the dentin or enamel. Many patients who undergo tooth-whitening treatments report tooth pain or sensitivity. KöR whitening patients experience little to no side effects.

What's involved in a KöR whitening treatment?

KöR combines at-home treatments with an in-office procedure. Dr. Galbreath will make molds of your teeth to create custom-fitted KöR-Seal Trays. The trays are thin and form-fitting, to ensure minimal discomfort. You will also receive whitening gel to place in the trays. You can wear the trays at night or during the day.

After two weeks of at-home whitening, you also have the option to receive additional in-office whitening. The in-office procedure helps boost your results and provides deep stain removal.

Dr. Galbreath may recommend that you continue to use your whitening trays at least once a month to help preserve your results. Regular maintenance treatments can keep your teeth from developing new stains.
